Casio PAW1500T-7V Reviews

rated 4 out of 5 Critique and Praise

Saying that this is a great watch, well... goes without saying. Casio products are top notch. So here are a few things you find you might find less than great, although they might fall under the "nitpicking" category. First, the pins in the band. I had to slightly bend mine to make them hold in place after removing and resetting them. It seems there was no tension built into the pins; they were solid and straight. And once removed, slid freely out again when I replaced them, until I bent them slightly. Also on the band- look closely at the photos. This is stainless steel, not titanium. It is a nice, although heavy band. The case IS titanium. One reviewer got it wrong in claiming it was plastic. But that's titanium for ya. Strong as steel, light as plastic. As far as functions go, I am still getting used to them. They are a bit different from my last Pathfinder; I really liked that holding down the "mode" button for a couple seconds returned my old Pathfinder to its home display, no matter what screen it was on. Not so with this one. I also liked that the light button was a single large button in the bottom-middle of the watch. It allowed me to easily find the light whether in total darkness, half asleep, half drunk... I'm still getting used to having to find the right button under those conditions. The alarm is rather dainty compared to my old pathfinder as well. Granted, my old one could wake me from a dead sleep, so perhaps I just need to get used to this one. And I must say, the altimeter function is useless. It is based on data received from the pressure (barometric) sensor. And since atmospheric pressure is constantly changing, the altitude readings vary wildly. Even if you set the altimeter before you embarked on a hike, and even if you figured out a formula to adjust altitude readings in relation to barometric changes (which would only be reliable if YOUR altitude did not vary) you'd still have to check a reliable secondary source to verify the watch's accuracy. And if you already had a reliable source of that information... Having said that, just having the compass and barometer function make having the sensors worth it. Enough cannot be said be said of the practicality of the solar and automatic time setting features. If you're the kind of person who replaces a watch after your old one gives out, you might end up owning this watch forever.

rated 3 out of 5 A good value for the money?
by D. Brown from U.S.A, 2010-02-25

I saw those nice video reviews about this watch, before I brought on e on E-bay. I brought one for about $230.00. I'm alittle disappointed. Can you get a good value for the money these days? Seems not, though 200.00 isn't alot of money to spend on a watch like this?

The Casio Path-finder 1500. It has a titaniun band, but the rest of the watch is Resin. find the Band scuffs readily. The band is very light, the links appear the same over and under that watch , but it feels chintzy. The watch case looks great, but all the construction is mostly resin (plastic) including the pushers. With a chintzy pushers for the light. The Light has a good but weak 2 or 3 seconds brightness.

I get the feeling that the makers of other watches of this type like Armitron. or Timex, could make a better or similar quality watch..like the type you can find in inexpensive retail stores like wal-mart, or Sears for less than a $100.00. This watch doesn't seem that much different than the ones they make. This watch looks great though, thats why you should be fooled by those video ad's on "You-tube". It has all those great features, like the solar powered, and self adjusting...and water resistance. But for over $200.00 I could have brought a fair value Seiko diver watch, or an Invicta.

Invictas have probelms, they used to be a very good value for the money. My 150.00 Inviicta, nows that a good solid watch, But the movement is less than ,(I hate ther chrongraph movement) desired and it has weak luminosity, which I like in a watch. The Seiko divers have great luminosity..

My Advice, don't spend more than 200.00 for the pathfinder 1500 unless you can handle this watch in a store first .

rated 5 out of 5 Chic Magnet
by Vinod Kumar from Bangalore, India, 2010-02-01

This is a real chic magnet. Wont talk about how it is chic magnet. :)

As it has a solar battery, it is better to wear outside the sleeve. It has good solar life. But, I prefer charging it all the time. It looks awesome. Real titanium colour. If it was in Steel colour, I would not have liked it so much. It is not glossy and can be worn for Party as well as for meetings. The watch is big but is there any loaded sports watch that is not big? Once I removed 4 links it fits snug.

My dad gifted a solar powered Casio watch in 1993. It is still working. But, now I am an executive and needed another solar watch from Casio. This watch is an ideal replacement. It weighs almost the same as my previous watch thanks to Titanium.

Everything in the watch works perfectly fine. I will explore these features in trekking soon. Who knows when I will need to find my path for Survival. To be tested soon... :-)

Caution: You need a geographical map to use this watch. Else you wont stand a chance.

rated 4 out of 5 Casio Men's Pathfinder
by Lon S. Felker from Johnson City, TN, 2010-01-27

I've owned another Pathfinder, one that was solar only. This new one is a real step up.
It has all the Pathfinder standard bells and whistles, and I like the metal bracelet.
The arrangement of the knobs for compass, altimeter and barometer are very convenient for
me, as I am left handed and wear the watch on my right wrist.
I'm not an especially outdoorsy type, but the ruggedness of this model is certainly a plus
when I go hiking in the mountains (I live in Appalachia), and also when swimming.
In the past, I've had problems with other atomic clock set watches, but so far this one seems
on the beam.
So to summarize, I'd say this Pathfinder is accurate, comfortable, convenient, durable and somewhat stylish.

by Dai Roberts from Holy Island, North Wales, 2010-01-18

1st review, so I'm not expecting a pulitzer prize !!

I bought this watch after looking at several others in the pathfinder ( or pro-trek- depends on where you are in the world I'm told) series. most if not all of the pathfinders have the ABC system but this model has a few 'extras' that make it stand out amongst the others.

firstly it doesn't come with a horrible rubber strap! to me if you're going to spend this much on a watch, then having one with a rubber strap really let it down- it would be like having a Ferrari with steel wheels and plastic clip on trims! as its a titanium band it weight hardly anything- infact, it weighs less than another watch of mine a mechanical Rotary GS series !!

now for the added extras in the watch itself...

in addition to the ABC system we have a moonphase tracker, tide graph ( living on a small island this is VERY handy) and a thermometer. the thermometer is a bit useless though as its always the same temperature on my wrist!

also worth a note- over many of the others watches in the pathfinder series, this is a power hungry watch- I'd imagine that if this was powered with conventional batteries it would last , at most a year, however this watch is solar powered! bonus ! :D

as well as being solar powered it r/c time kept, every day at around 1am it receives a signal from an atomic clock (again depends where you are in the world) to make sure it's running as it should

the only draw back I'll give this watch is it's size- I'm pretty big and have large wrists and forearms, so it doesn't look out of place on me, but when my father tried it on (who's a good bit smaller than me) it looked like he had a wall clock on his wrist it totally drowned him out
